Stara Sola Korte - Izola

Above Portorož, Piran and Izola, this modern hostel is housed in a newly refurbished former elementary school. Enjoy great beaches, beautiful vistas and numerous other options for active holidays. The air-conditioned and colourfully styled rooms provide for a comfortable stay and optimal relaxation after a day of swimming or hiking and biking through the picturesque natural surroundings. Apart from culinary delights, Slovenian Istria offers you a host of cultural and historic sights, easy to explore from this inviting hostel.

Apart from a very practical location in the vicinity of all the three coastal towns (Koper, Izola and Piran), Korte also offers tranquillity and nature of the genuine Istrian countryside. The surrounding countryside with the Šavrinsko gricevje hills offers a truly beautiful view. The village consists of two parts. The Lower Village (Dolnja vas), where the houses on the pier huddle around the “jugna” (an open air dancing area), contains two prominent buildings: the skyscraper (neboticnik), which stands next to the road Koper-Buje, and the baroque house that dates back to 1738. In the Upper Village (Gornja vas) stands the church of St. Anton the Hermit, which prides itself with baroque Bigocci altars from 1468. The church is very acoustic and suitable for concerts. We are currently designing additional and extremely fun programmes for all who visit the youth hostel Old School Korte. Apart from a simple holiday we will be offering sports activities (cycling, horseback riding, hiking …) as well as culinary and historical activities (visits to an oil mill, a tour of a typical Istrian farm and the local villages, tasting of typical Istrian wines and a visit to the wine cellars).

By car: Direction Koper - Izola - Korte - Once you arrive to Koper, take the main road to Izola. - Follow the exit Center/Centro and continue to the second traffic lights. - Turn left, in the direction of Korte. - Follow the main road until you pass the second sign for the village of Korte (about 8 km). - On the main crossroad in the village turn left in the direction of Smarje. - After 300 metres turn right on the hostel parking area. By bus: There are many towns in Slovenia connected by bus with Izola. Once you arrive to Izola, take the bus to the village of Korte. Walk 300 metres from the bus stop in Korte to the hostel. The hostel has its own kitchen with a spacious dining room, where all meals from breakfast to dinner are available. There are also 2 restaurants located close to the hostel (200 metres). They offer a variety of local dishes for every taste and budget.
